This rock corridor that is more than 100 meters long is called Chengyao Rock, it is said that it gathers the spirit of heaven and earth, the essence of the sun and moon. If you insert a twig into any crevice on the rock and sincerely pray for health, while the twig remains intact or stays in the crevice, then your wish will be granted. It is said that the soldiers of Taiping Heavenly Kingdom prayed in this way, and kept on resisting Qing army.

You can see that there is a giant stone pillar standing in front of us in the left. It is large on the top and small on the bottom. There is a cypress on the top of the peak, and its leaves joggle in the wind, making the entire rock mountain look like a flaming candle, hence the peak is named the “Candle Peak”. You may see a first line of a couplet on a scroll written by Mr. Zou Yuanbiao, a Jinshi in Ming Dynasty, when he was visiting Luohanyan, which can be literally translated in English: The Candle Peak, there are maples on the peak where the bees nest. The wind blows the maple leaves and closes the door of the bees’ nest. This is an unprecedented first line of a couplet, and so far no one is able to respond it with a perfect second line.
